We are pleased to pass on this special appeal from Terry Fox’s brother, Darrell Fox, who is looking for a passionate PEI rider ready and willing to join a monumental cross-Canada National Ride for Hope next June! Cycle across Canada with Darrell Fox. Support innovative cancer research. Be part of the National Ride of Hope.
Before Terry’s cancer and the Marathon of Hope, we were kids building forts, floating on inner tubes down the Coquitlam River, and riding our bikes to pick blueberries for summer spending money.
Incredibly, next year marks the 45th anniversary of Terry’s Marathon of Hope. To commemorate the Marathon of Hope and to support Terry's enduring legacy, I will be joining a small group of 12 experienced and compassionate cyclists in a cross-country bike ride.
The National Ride of Hope will begin in June 2025. We’ll pedal more than 7,000 kilometres from Vancouver to St. John’s, with stops in 13 cities across 9 provinces. Along the way, we’ll engage with Canadians and raise money to support innovative cancer research. We are looking for 12 cyclists who represent our vast country, including but not limited to gender, geography, diversity, youth and the not so youthful. Do you have, or know someone with, a strong WHY behind wanting to be one of our National Riders? If the statements below speak specifically to you, or to someone in your circle, please reach out to Nikki Rekman at nikki.rekman@terryfox.org. Team – “I am only one member of the Marathon of Hope. I am equal with all of you” - Terry Fox. A Terry Fox rider is a team rider who is always looking to support, encourage and assist those around him/her. You will be spending 24/7 in tough and tight conditions for 32 days. Cause-Driven/Passionate – “I could not leave the (cancer ward) knowing these faces and feelings would still exist even though I would be set free from mine. Somewhere the hurting must stop, and I was determined to take myself to the limit for this cause.” - Terry Fox. We will be looking for people who have giving back high on their to do list. Riding ability – “I want to try the impossible to show that it can be done." - Terry Fox. Riding across the country in a peloton is not impossible, but it will not be easy. Riders will need to be able to ride 240 km a day for 32 days at an average pace of 30 km an hour. Fundraising – Terry ran across the country for one reason only – to raise funds for cancer research and to end the suffering caused by cancer. We will encourage riders to set a fundraising goal of $45,000 for the 45th anniversary. A selected rider will need to draw on their family, friends, work colleagues and extended community to build a fundraising team. You cannot do it alone. The Ride will also give Canadians the opportunity to participate as we Ride through towns/cities across the country. You may want to meet and ride with the National Riders, volunteer, or host a community fundraising event, or host the Riders for a meal. Reach out to Nikki at nikki.rekman@terryfox.org to discuss further. Sincerely,
Darrell Fox
