>> Check out our 2024 Annual Report to see what an incredible amount of activity our association made happen together! Our new Board executive is ready to get to work to make 2025 an equally great year, and they can’t do it alone! Cycling PEI is largely a volunteer-driven organization, pedalled forward by the contributions and participation of its members. Would you like to have a “seat at the table” and make a direct contribution to Cycling PEI’s mission to help build a vibrant and healthy cycling experience for Islanders? If so, please consider joining one of our committees - or even the Board as a Director at Large! Right now, we are calling for applications of interest for the following committees: Cycling for All Committee Canada Cup Organizing Committee Events Committee Advocacy Committee CPEI Board Directors at Large
See further down for more on what these committees do. Once you’ve had a look through the committee mandates, let us know if you’d like to be considered for any of the committees by filling out this form: https://forms.gle/3CMvAdmg3iNa7X9C7. Please submit your interest by January 12, 2025. Cycling for All CommitteeThe Cycling for All Committee works with the Executive Director to help ensure that our events and programming are inclusive of a broad diversity of cyclists, recognizing that not everyone who cycles wants to compete in races. In 2024, the work of this committee led to such initiatives as the Terry Fox Ride of Hope (gravel ride), the Seniors E-Bike Tour and Social, and the Women’s Road Cycling Program. Canada Cup Organizing CommitteeExciting news! Last spring, Cycling PEI applied to to host our very first Canada Cup mountain bike event in 2025, picking up the torch from Kentville which has been hosting the event for several years and will be taking a two-year break. This fall, we were officially approved by Cycling Canada and the UCI to host this national event at Brookvale! The Canada Cup will be the biggest race Cycling PEI has ever hosted, so we will need a whole committee to support the Executive Director in this work. While lots of pre-planning has been done, the committee will be needed to help plan the finer details that will make the event awesome, assist with pursuing sponsorship, recruiting and organizing race weekend volunteers, and more. If you have a passion for helping host a great event, we’d like to hear from you! Events CommitteeThe Events Committee will support the Executive Director in the planning and organization of great events - competitive and recreational - that serve our cycling community well. If you would like to help shape the kinds and quality of events on our annual calendar, we’d love to hear from you!
Advocacy CommitteeThe Advocacy Committee spearheads CPEI’s cycling advocacy efforts, identifying key issues where CPEI can take leadership to advance cycling in PEI, considering emerging issues that may require us to take a position or action on, and liaising and collaborating with other groups on areas of mutual interest and concern. CPEI Board Directors at LargeThe Board of Cycling PEI is responsible for: Setting the strategic direction of the organization and ensuring that strategic plans are implemented; Hiring and exercising oversight over the work of the Executive Director; Exercising financial oversight of the organization; Ensuring that CPEI is meeting its legal obligations, and managing risks to the organization; Setting organizational policies that are not purely operational in nature.
The elected Board executive may appoint additional Directors at Large to join the Board and assist in this work, helping shape CPEI as an organization poised for success.
