And they’re off! The Summerside Muckraker kicked off Cycling PEI’s racing season with a well-attended race at Rotary Park on May 12th.

Cycling Events this Weekend

SATURDAY JUNE 8:
INDIAN RIVER ROAD RACE

Get ready for Cycling PEI’s first road race of the 2024 season!

This 12km loop course features rolling hills, for a low difficulty but high fun factor to get back into the groove for another year of cycling.

First session June 8th: Learn to Jump with Geoff Murray!

Do you want to "Step Up" your jumping game? Here's your chance! Clinics are available for beginner (June 8 and July 6) or intermediate (June 22 and July 20) level jumpers.

Learn how to jump for the first time or take your jumping skills to the next level!

Teens and adults only. These are CPEI-sanctioned events.

SUNDAY JUNE 9:
CPEI GRAVITY SERIES PRESENTS SPRINGTON SHOWDOWN

Please join us as we return for a third year to Joe Downham's private bike park for a fun downhill style event. This park is similar in style to the moderately challenging Blue Nuit/Coastline trails at Brookvale, which are suitable for all rider styles and capabilities.

This year, the event will include:
- Mini Enduro open to all riders, 2 different runs, lowest combined total wins.
- Speed and style open to qualified riders (those able to jump the bigger features). Participants get 2 runs, timed, with judging on 3 or features to reduce time for certain tricks/style.
- Jump jam with air bag, whip off

JUNE 9: Senior’s E-Cycling Tour & Social

*LIMITED SPOTS LEFT* Seniors are invited to join Cycling PEI, Rising Tide and The Haviland for a Seniors’ E-Cycling Tour and Social on Sunday, June 9th, starting at 2pm!

We will begin by gathering at the Haviland Club before heading up the street to be matched up with an e-bike from Rising Tide.

All participants will be given basic e-bike lessons and have a chance to test out and get comfortable with their e-bikes in a parking lot before we all head out on a slow, easy group ride around Victoria Park.

Finally, we will return to the Haviland at around 4pm for some social time including a BBQ and musical entertainment by the Diamond Jazz Collective!

Cycling PEI Seeks Volunteers

Cycling PEI is seeking volunteers to assist in a variety of ways with keeping our competitive cycling scene vibrant and safe!

We could use a hand at upcoming races and other events this summer (including this Saturday’s Indian River Road Race), with everything from helping riders stay safe at intersections to helping staff rest stations or flipping burgers on the grill! Provincial and Youth Cycling Development Coach Sue Rodgers is seeking guest coach/riders on Thursday evenings to support the Youth HP Program’s technical ride! Terry Fox Ride of Hope:
PEI Gravel Edition!
Sunday, June 23

Cycling PEI is pleased to host Prince Edward Island’s first (Gravel) Ride of Hope, Sunday June 23 at 10am.

Get ready for a fantastic morning of riding, local heritage and great company in support of the Terry Fox Foundation and raising funds for cancer research.

We welcome riders of all levels and abilities to join us. You can even register as a team!

Two routes will depart from the historic Sir Andrew MacPhail House: a 20km or 35km (or less) Confederation Trail, and a 65km multi-surface route including two heritage roads!

Bike Week activities in Charlottetown (June 17-23)

Cycling PEI’s is proud to partner with other great community organizations on Bike Week activities in Charlottetown this year!

In particular, families with children aged 6-12 are invited to join us on Saturday, June 22nd for a free HopOn Bikefest as part of the Block Party in the Legacy Gardens (behind the Farm Centre on University Ave)!

Other Community Cycling Events

Thursday Night Confederation Trail Ride

Everyone is welcome to join a group that meets Thursday evening’s at 6:30 p.m. to ride a section of the Confederation Trail.

We meet at different locations along the Trail every week. Whether you are getting back to cycling after many years or are a regular rider this is a great opportunity to ride with others and enjoy the wonderful Confederation Trail. If you don’t have a bike a new Trek hybrid bike is available for you to try. Also, if you are feeling a bit worried about cycling an experienced rider will help you along the way. CNIB Bike Bell Campaign Launch and Survey for Cyclists

The CNIB is launching a public education initiative on Prince Edward Island to encourage cyclists, e-scooters and e-bike riders to ring their bicycle bells when approaching pedestrians along the Confederation Trail. Cycling PEI is proud to support this campaign!

A local launch event will be held at the Delta Hotel on Thursday, June 20 (4:30-6pm), where community members will be distributing free bicycle bells and reminding the public about the importance of ringing their bells on shared pathways to alert pedestrians, including people who are blind, Deafblind or have low vision.

Summerside Bicycle Fun Fest (Aug 20)

SAFE Summerside is leading the way on this amazing event on Tuesday, August 20th collaboration with numerous community organizations and partners - including Cycling PEI!

The Summerside Bicycle Fun Fest is a celebration of community and cycling in the city. It is a community bicycle event that anticipates the participation of around 80 to 100 people but may reach as high as 150. The event starts at TOSH, and then we cycle to different parks, where we play games for 20 minutes before proceeding to the next park. We will offer free pizza, chocolate milk, and other exciting prizes. Later in the evening, there will be a HopOn festival for youth.

Don't have a bicycle? You can borrow one from SAFE, take your scooter, rollerblades, or mobility scooter, or reserve a free e-scooter for the event.
