Last month PEI's top mountain bikers raced in the Dieppe Canada Cup! There were a number of impressive performances by Islanders:

Stella Funk and Elizabeth Joyce (on the podium in the photo above) took home gold and bronze in the short track and silver and bronze in the Female cross country race for the U11 Female category.

Nathan Joyce and Levi Jay finished 3rd and 4th, respectively, in the Male U13 categories in both the cross country and short track races.

William Hebb finished 2nd in the Male U11 category in the short track race, and bronze in the cross country race.

Frank Robblee finished first in the Masters Sport 45+ Male category, and Cory Jay finished 5th in the Senior Expert 35-44 Male category.

THIS WEEKEND (August 5 & 6)
Canoe Cove Trial Trial & Road Race
Provincial Road Championships

The Canoe Cove Time Trial and Road Race are the PEI provincial Road Cycling championships. This year, the 17km Time Trial will take place in the evening of Saturday, August 5th at 6pm, while the 33km Road Race will start at 11am on Sunday, August 6th.

These races are excited to welcome participants from all three Maritime provinces! We are grateful to be sponsored by PEI’s newest bike shop AND bakery, Knead A Brake!

THIS SUNDAY: Springton Throwdown Showdown (Gravity Series #2)

Please join us as we return for a second year to Joe Downham's private bike park for a fun downhill-style event.

This park is similar in style to the moderately challenging Blue Nuit/Coastline trails at Brookvale, which are suitable for all rider styles and capabilities. Format will consist of 3 runs for expert and recreational categories and 2 runs for youth.

Best timed run on each trail will be combined for a total result.

August 13: Tour de Pants Mountain Bike Race (Cardigan River Trails)

The Tour de Pants was created as a contra event to the Tour de France to celebrate Mountain Biking in P.E.I. It takes place on the BEAUTIFUL new Cardigan River Trails developed by Cycling PEI with the support of the provincial Active Transportation Fund since 2020 - boasting some of the finest, flowiest trails in PEI and the Maritimes!

In the morning starting at 10am, we will host races for ages U-9, U-11, U13, U15, U17 and Adult Beginner.

The Adult race will take place at 12pm for ages 17 and up.

We’ll be doing some BBQing as well!

July may be a month to celebrate professional Road Racing in Europe, but here on P.E.I. the Tour de Pants promises to deliver raw Mountain Biking thrills like no other.

The race will take place on the trail system in Cardigan located beside the baseball field and liquor store on Chapel Road.

August 19: Dusty Red Gravel Grinder

Recipient of Cycling PEI’s 2022 Event of the Year Award, the Dusty Red Gravel Grinder is coming back for a second year in 2023, on Saturday, August 19 (rain day Sunday, August 20) - so mark your calendars!

This event is sponsored by Ted’s Bicycle Studio, featuring different rides of varying length exploring the gravel of eastern Queens County. All rides start and end at Ted’s Bicycle Studio at 26 Hollis Avenue in Stratford. Lunch will be provided after the ride.

Event Volunteers Needed!

Cycling PEI’s races and rides would not be possible without the help of volunteers. Whether it’s help with setting up a course, marshalling an intersection to keep riders safe during a road race, manning a nutrition stop or flipping burgers on a BBQ, there are many roles you can play to help make races and rides safe, fun and enjoyable.

Gran Fondo PEI Call for Volunteers:
August 25 - 27

From August 25 - 27, the Island roads will see an influx of cyclists which can only mean one thing … Gran Fondo PEI is happening!

Did you know that Gran Fondo PEI is the largest cycling event on PEI? This incredible riding event requires awesome people to help power the event. We are looking for individuals who are interested in volunteering this year. With multiple volunteer roles and time slots available, there is plenty to choose from. We welcome volunteers of all ages. This is an excellent opportunity for any high school or university student requiring volunteer hours or looking to add volunteer experience to a resume.

Volunteer shifts can be as short as a couple of hours. Roles are as varied as:

Nutrition Support
Registration
Traffic Control
First Aid Assistance
Ride Ambassador
Rider Support
Photography

Volunteers can also enjoy perks such as free participation in event rides, access to vintage Fondo Jerseys and more!

The 2023 Boyles Optical 55+ Summer Games will be hosted once again by the Town of Kensington!

The week long event will run from Saturday, September 9th to Friday September 15th. Events this year will include Pickleball, golf, cribbage, auction 45, Scrabble, washer toss, cycling and many more!
