That said, some of the most popular mountain biking trails, at Brookvale, Bonshaw and Strathgartney, have been much more severely affected. Without thousands of chainsaw-hours going into these trails over the rest of this fall, there is a very real chance that only a small portion of those trails will be ready for riding again next year. Cleaning up trails from storm-fallen trees is a risky and complex activity. Cycling PEI has been working tirelessly over the past couple of weeks to assemble crews, organize volunteers, sort out chainsaw training and licensing questions (chainsaw operators working on provincial parks and other crown land must have completed a government-approved training course), work out funding arrangements, figure out how to insure our volunteers in case of accidents, and more. We now have regular crews starting to work on Bonshaw, Strathgartney and Brookvale, and are looking for more volunteers and regular paid crew members to join these efforts.
